What’s Rockabilly?
It is a musical style born in the 50s in the southern United States, considered a subgenre of Rock & Roll with country rhythm and blues influence. The word “Rockabilly” is given by the contraction Rock and Hillbilly, concerning to a rude variety of folk that had been developed in the 40s. Although in the 60s there was a drop in popularity, in the 70s and 80s re-emerged until today in a subculture way.
High Rockabilly Festival in Calafell
Calafell is dressed by Rockabilly year after year to receive visitors from countless countries attracted by the considered best festival of the genre at European level: High Rockabilly Festival, which has been held since 1999.
This beautiful town on the Spanish Costa Dorada will make these rock visitors from all over the world feel like in the truly United States of the 50’s, decorating its streets and establishments with rock motifs, with totally “rockabillyzad@s” shop assistants and with a very rocky soundtrack and characteristic of this subculture.
